Entry 2 Evolution of CALL
Assalaamualaikum and hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog!
In this entry i am going to talk about topics i have learnt in my IT class which are Evolution of CALL and Search Engines and Online Database.
EVOLUTION OF CALL
In class, my lecturer taught us the history of CALL. How and when it started. For your information, back then, there were no computer and internet like what we have today. But how did people type texts? What did they use? Well, back then people use teletype machine to type texts. In learning, students were required to listen to the questions and type their answer using teletype machine. Then, they will hand in their answer to the teacher and compare their answer. How does teletype machine look like? look at that picture below.

Besides, since we have no internet as well at that time, people use CD to learn language. how did they use it? Back then, when we purchase a book at a bookstore, the book usually will come with a free CD. Then, when we want to read the book but we do not know how to pronounce the word it that book, we need to put the CD into the computer or CD player to listen to the pronunciation.
But, with the advanced technology nowadays, we could learn language by just using the computer even though without the internet or CD! For example, if you use Microsoft word software in your computer to type sentence but you do not have a wide English vocabulary or you might want to change some word, you can highlight the word, left click on your finger and click on "SYNONYM" and you will find the suggested synonym for your word. isn't that easy?
The Internet and CALL
With the advanced technology nowadays, CALL is dominated by the internet to access and communicated information. Besides, it is not only used for language learning, but also as a medium of communication. Lastly, learners are not only recipients but also communicators and creators.

Furthermore, nowadays, computer could be our tutor as well. If we are having trouble in pronouncing word correctly, computer will definitely help us which make our life much easier because we do not need to hire a tutor or go and see educator to ask them how to pronounce the word. all we need to do is to listen to the pronunciation and repeat the pronunciation.
