Entry 3 Computer Mediated Communication (CMC)

so now, in this entry, i am going to share my reflection about the new topic that i have learnt in class which is Computer Mediated Comunication (CMC) & ESL. if you feel curious want to know more, then keep on reading.

Computer Mediated Communication (CMC)

Computer mediated communication or CMC is any form of communication or interaction between two or more people via separate computers through network connection. it is also any communication patterns mediated through a computer which means, CMC in a medium of communication that we ude to communicate with other people from all around the world. For example, Facebook, Twitter, E-mail, Myspace and more.

CMC In Education

CMC started in the late 1980's with the introduction of Communicative CALL. In education, it is implemented for long-distance teaching/learning.   From my pont of view, CMC is a relevant way in education nowadays as it allows people to communicate with each other anytime and anywhere. All we need to have are a computer, laptop, and smartphones  and a good internet coverage.  i still remember my first time chatting in a forum called Alamak.com. It was a great experience because i was able to communicate with people from different places and made a lot of new friends but we could not see the peoples' face or details background. However, i find it unsafe in terms of security because we do not know the person's background. Now, i am no longer chatting in the forum and prefer using social media instead such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and more.

CMC And Long Distance Learning

In the late 2000s, CMC was implemented for distance learning where synchronous communications allows teacher and learner to interact without being in the same location. From my point of view, CMC is one of the most effective way in education because it allows the students to connect with each other outside the class; anytime anywhere. it is also serves the most convenient way for the students to  communicate with each other because the students do not have to go out anymore.
